Kemp Bros Lead Superintendent

At Kemp, we believe in making a difference, not just in the structures we build, but in the communities we serve. We foster a family-like environment where every team member is valued, and we’re deeply committed to giving back by building essential infrastructure in the public sector, including K-12 schools, higher education facilities, healthcare, transportation, and municipal government buildings. As part of our team, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the future of these communities while growing your career in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Job Summary:

The Lead Superintendent is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the entire field operations of large-scale construction projects, typically valued at over $100M. This individual will manage and supervise multiple Superintendents on a single, complex project, ensuring that all aspects of construction are executed efficiently, safely. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in DSA or other Public Works projects, with a proven track record of leading large teams and delivering high-value projects on time and within budget.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Oversee all on-site construction activities for large-scale projects, ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and budgets.
  • Superintendent Management: Supervise and mentor 2-3 Superintendents working under your leadership, ensuring cohesive coordination across different areas of the project.
  • DSA Compliance: Lead the implementation of DSA regulations across the project, ensuring all work complies with safety standards, quality requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Scheduling: Develop and maintain master construction schedules, coordinating with project teams and subcontractors to ensure timely completion of milestones.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and enforce quality control measures across all construction activities, ensuring that the project meets the highest standards of workmanship and materials.
  • Safety Oversight: Promote and enforce a culture of safety on the job site, conducting regular safety meetings and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations.
  • Budget Oversight: Monitor project budgets, working closely with the Project Manager to control costs and prevent overruns.
  • Client and Stakeholder Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders on-site, addressing concerns and ensuring satisfaction with project progress and outcomes.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactively identify and resolve issues that arise during construction, minimizing delays and disruptions to the project.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Ensure that all project documentation, including daily logs, safety reports, and change orders, is accurate and up to date.
  • Team Coordination: Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and other key stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and coordination across all aspects of the project.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in construction management, with at least 5 years as a Superintendent overseeing large-scale projects ($100M+). Extensive experience with DSA-regulated or other public works projects is required.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; a bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage large teams, with strong mentoring and supervisory skills.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam) and scheduling tools (e.g., Microsoft Project or Primavera).
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, subcontractors, and project teams.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to address complex challenges quickly and efficiently.
  • DSA Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of DSA regulations and requirements, with proven experience in ensuring compliance on large projects.
  • Time Management: Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple aspects of a project simultaneously.
  • Safety Awareness: A strong commitment to safety, with the ability to enforce safety protocols across all job sites.
